Thanking America's Armed Forces to All National Parks

International Falls, Minnesota – To show appreciation for those who serve in the U.S. Military, the National Park Service will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to all 397 national parks for active duty military members and their dependents.

New General Manager for Lake Country Power

New General Manager for Lake Country Power

Lake Country Power's Board of Directors has named Greg Randa general manager of the 43,000 member rural electric cooperative. The veteran cooperative manager will be charged with the responsibility to lead the non-profit utility on its course to improve service and reliability for members in northern Minnesota.

“Greg is an experienced general manager and he has been a valuable contributor to the electric cooperative through the years,” said Lake Country Power Board President Jack Huhta.

Explore Life and Death of the Stars

Join Voyageurs National Park Aquatic Ecologist, Geof Smith, in an exploration of the life and death of the stars on Friday, May 18, at 8:30 p.m. at Voyageurs National Park.

"Starry, Starry Night: Life and Death of the Stars” is a two hour program focusing on how these cosmic events are connected to life on earth.

Meet inside the Rainy Lake Visitor Center on for an indoor presentation followed by outdoor viewing with binoculars, if weather permits. Binoculars are available or you may bring your own.

This program is sponsored by Voyageurs National Park Association. No fee or registration is required to attend. Recommended ages 12 and up.

WKU Students to Fight Alzheimer's Disease

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Seven Western Kentucky University students hope to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer's disease this summer by riding across America.

The Daily News of Bowling Green (http://bit.ly/KsSSl3) reports that the students are members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and they hope to raise $175,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.

That would be twice the amount that a different group from the same fraternity raised two years ago when they took a similar trip.

"We realized this was still a cause worth fighting for," said Josh Amos, a Bowling Green junior who is helping to coordinate the ride but isn't participating in it.

All Minnesota Academic Team Member

Andrew Linaman , a Mesabi Range College student, has been named 2012 All-Minnesota, Academic Team Member.

Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, was pleased to honor Andrew Linaman as a member to the 2012 All-Minnesota Academic Team. All 40 members, along with their college representatives and family members were treated to an award banquet at the Eagan Community Center in Eagan, Minnesota on Friday, March 30, 2012.

Andy is majoring in Industrial Technology. He is the treasurer and active member in Mesabi Range Community & Technical College Phi Theta Kappa Club and involved in student senate on the EvelethCampus.

He hopes to find a job in the mining industry as a Process Engineer.
