WKU Students to Fight Alzheimer's Disease

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Seven Western Kentucky University students hope to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer's disease this summer by riding across America.

The Daily News of Bowling Green (http://bit.ly/KsSSl3) reports that the students are members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and they hope to raise $175,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.

That would be twice the amount that a different group from the same fraternity raised two years ago when they took a similar trip.

"We realized this was still a cause worth fighting for," said Josh Amos, a Bowling Green junior who is helping to coordinate the ride but isn't participating in it.

Selling Hot Dogs at Super One

The Shiners Hospital, which enables children to receive life-changing care at free or reduced cost for families, receives 100% of the funds raised. Local Knights of Columbus chapters have raised more than $250,000 over the past 14 years.
