Violinist Rivera to Kick Off Duluth Dylan Fest

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - A concert to benefit the restoration of Duluth's old armory building will kick off this year's Duluth Dylan Fest.

Violinist Scarlet Rivera will headline the concert Friday, May 18, at the University of Minnesota Duluth's Weber Music Hall.

Quilt Guild Presentation at MDC

The 'Going to Pieces' Quilters Guild of Virginia will be celebrating its 30-year anniversary at the Minnesota Discovery Center on Saturday, May 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with quilting exhibits, lecture, demonstrations, and assessments for vintage quilts. The public is invited!

The exhibit showcases 90 quilts and quilted objects. See the creative advances from their first to most current quilts. Within each quilt the women's personalities show through from humor to artistic vision.

FEATURING:

10:00am: LECTURE BY AUTHOR/QUILTING EXPERT

Lecture by author and quilting extraordinaire Darlene Zimmerman. Darlene's quilting career began by designing tools for EZ quilting and she now has 20+ quilting tools on the market.

The Armory Arts & Music Center, along with Duluth Dylan Fest organizers, is pleased to announce that famed violinist Scarlet Rivera will headline "Desire in Duluth" at the UMD Weber Music Hall Friday, May 18, 2012. This one night only event will kick off the 2012 Duluth Dylan Fest and 2012 Hibbing Dylan Days.

"This will be an historic event and is not to be missed," said Susan Phillips, president of the Armory Arts & Music Center Board of Directors. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see true musical legends perform live on the Weber Music Hall stage. We are hopeful that through efforts to restore Duluth's historic Armory soon such a show will be gracing the Duluth Armory Drill Hall stage once again."

Range Fiberart Guild Meeting

The Range Fiberart Guild will meet on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012, at 6:30 PM in the Perkins Room on the 3rd floor of the Virginia Regional Medical Center (VRMC) Convalescent Unit.

There will be presentations and work samples from each of the 2011-2012 fiber art study groups, including Spinning, Beading, Rag Rug Weaving and Knitting.

Anyone with an interest in fiber arts is welcome to attend.

Dues are only $15 per year and the Guild is a great way to learn new skills and contribute to the fiber arts community.
