PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre man, formerly of northern Minnesota, drowned after falling through the ice on the Missouri River while apparently trying to rescue his dog near a campground area east of the city.

Feds Approve Sales of 5 Radio Stations

WASHINGTON - The Federal Communications Commission recently approved the sale of five northern Minnesota radio stations in two unrelated transactions.

IRRRB Open House

An Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) open house for local officials is slated for Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the agency's administrative office in Eveleth.

The open house was planned in an effort to increase the agency's transparency with the public and to encourage cooperation among community partners. Invited guests include city, county, and township officials, school superintendents, and school board members.

During the open house, guests will meet the staff, tour the office and learn more about IRRRB programs. The open house is slated for 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Commissioner Tony Sertich will provide welcoming remarks at 1:30 p.m. in the Mesabi Conference Room. Breakout sessions regarding agency programs also will be held.

Orchestra Concerts Across Region

Representative Kerry Gauthier (DFL-Duluth) is pleased to announce that the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra will receive a $95,000 grant from the State Arts Board.

The grant was made available through an appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature with money from the November 4, 2008, Legacy vote of the people.

Representative Gauthier serves on the State Government Finance committee, which has jurisdiction over state agencies including the Minnesota State Arts Board.

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra will use the funds to tour and share classical music and symphonic programs in the communities of Two Harbors, Cloquet, Virginia, and Hibbing.

Legacy Amendment arts and cultural heritage funds are used to support arts and arts access, arts education, and arts and cultural heritage throughout Minnesota.

Northern Minn. Musher Wins U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race

GRAND MARAIS, Mich. (AP) - A Ray, Minn., musher has won his third consecutive U.P. 200 sled dog race on a route changed this year due to lack of snow in parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
