CO Darrin Kittelson (International Falls) reports fishing opener fairly uneventful on Lake Kabetogama and Rainy River. Weather conditions were favorable except for wind making it difficult to control boats. Invasive species checks at access points were received well, except complaints of rules and requirements changing constantly making it confusing. Most people understand and want to comply. Nuisance bear complaint was handled in Int’l Falls.  Enforcement action was taken for transporting boat with drain plug in, state campground violations, extra lines, and ATV violations.

DNR Lifting Most Burning Restrictions Wednesday

Burning restrictions will soon be lifted in several counties in northern Minnesota due to the green-up of fire fuels, which eases wildfire conditions, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

New General Manager for Lake Country Power

New General Manager for Lake Country Power

Lake Country Power's Board of Directors has named Greg Randa general manager of the 43,000 member rural electric cooperative. The veteran cooperative manager will be charged with the responsibility to lead the non-profit utility on its course to improve service and reliability for members in northern Minnesota.

“Greg is an experienced general manager and he has been a valuable contributor to the electric cooperative through the years,” said Lake Country Power Board President Jack Huhta.
